  • At the start of what is expected to be a £1.5billion spending spree, shoppers in Manchester were pictured
  • Today is the first non-working day since the nationwide lockdown ended on December 2
  • Retailers hope purchases will breathe life back into a sector which has been hammered by the shutdown 
  • Comes after revellers were seen drinking outside bars in Soho, London, and braving wintry weather in York
  • It comes as groups of anti-lockdown protestors gathered in Victoria Square in Birmingham this afternoon
