Aman drove a car into pedestrians in the German city of Heidelberg on Saturday, killing one person and injuring two others, then fled on foot brandishing a knife before being intercepted and shot by police officers.

Dramatic video footage posted on Twitter showed the alleged attacker surrounded by officers with their guns drawn, who shouted orders at him and then opened fire after a tense standoff on a footpath next to a restaurant.

One of the three people hit outside a bakery in a central square of the picturesque town was seriously injured, Anne Baas, a police spokeswoman, said. Police later said the pedestrian had been killed

Another giant green dragonfly spotted in the UK

A mother was left terrified after she walked into her living room and spotted this monster ‘Jurassic’ sized dragonfly.

Rowena Wilkinson, 53, dashed indoors when she heard piercing screams coming from her daughter and her friend.

She found an enormous dark green dragonfly – measuring around 8inches long – flying around the room like a ‘mini-helicopter’.

Mrs Wilkinson, from Weston Turville, near Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire, said: ‘I heard them scream and when I ran in this dragonfly was spiralling round very quickly.

‘It sounded like a mini helicopter it was that noisy, it was like a Jurassic monster.

‘I didn’t know whether to take a photograph or run but I managed to get close enough to take a few pictures.

A cloud of mystery still hovers over Stonehenge, the prehistoric stone circle located on Salisbury Plain in Wiltshire, England.

HITH-Stonenge

A cloud of mystery still hovers over Stonehenge, the prehistoric stone circle located on Salisbury Plain in Wiltshire, England. In addition to wide-ranging theories about the monument’s true purpose (Druid temple? Ancient healing complex? Alien landing site?), archaeologists have long debated how it came to be built, given that the distinctive bluestones used in Stonehenge’s construction are native to southeast Wales, some 100-150 miles away from Salisbury. Now, new research has pinpointed the exact location of many of the rocks that make up Stonehenge, bringing us one step closer to solving at least one mystery behind the world’s most famous ancient monument.
HITH-StonengeAccording to the established wisdom for some 90 years, many of the smaller rocks making up Stonehenge come from the Preseli Hills in Pembrokeshire, Wales. In 1923, geologist Herbert Henry Thomas first identified an outcrop known as Carn Meini as the source of the spotted dolerite bluestones used to build Stonehenge. (The distinctive markings are the result of elements within the bluestones cooling at different rates after an underwater volcano ejected the stones some 450 million years ago.)

Thomas’ theory was that around 5,000 years ago, during the Neolithic era, humans quarried approximately 80 bluestones (each weighing up to three tons) specifically for Stonehenge. They transported the stones to the site in Wiltshire by moving them south, down from the Preseli Hills, and loading them on rafts to carry them up the Bristol Channel. Other geologists, however, argued that humans had no role in transporting the stones at all. According to this competing school of thought, an Ice Age glacier carried the bluestones to the Wiltshire region some 20,000 years ago, and they were already available locally when Neolithic man began building Stonehenge.

13.3 miles of lines were carved into a dry-lake bed in Oregon. What was discovered looked like a Crop Circle in the middle of the Desert…

13.3 miles of lines were carved into a dry-lake bed in Oregon. What was discovered looked like a Crop Circle in the middle of the Desert…This Geoglyph was a perfect “Sri Yantra Mandala Formation”.

This ancient symbol was so precise it was flawless…Each line was 10 inches wide and 3 inches deep carved into extremely hard compact dirt that is very difficult to dig in…

No cars where seen for miles, no tire tracks were seen for miles…No footprints were seen at the site or anywhere around it…No apparent signs of tools were used…And no one was seen in the area…

NO dirt from the 13.3 mile long 10 inch wide hole that was carved into the desert at a depth of 3 inches…There must have been a lot of dirt so it begs the question where is the dirt?

Photographer Jimmy Nelson has captured some of the last indigenous civilizations in the world in their natural environment, highlighting their traditions and culture in a beautiful project called Before they pass away ( Before they go out ).

w598_m2

Jimmy has spent the last three years along with the 35 tribes around the world. His travels resulted notably in Mongolia, Argentina and Tibet, in the most remote places in the world. Among these tribes, many are threatened by deforestation and other modern development process damaging their homes and damage their customs.

h498_w598_m2

On its website, the British photographer explains: ”  I wanted to witness their ancestral traditions, participate in their rituals and discover how the world threatened their way of life. And most importantly, I wanted to carry out an ambitious photographic project, a document that would stand the test of time. A recording so Ethnographic a world that is disappearing at the speed of lightning. “

_h498_w598_m2.

His next project? Leave to meet all the tribes visited to present their work. Jimmy then plans to start photographing other communities in the most politically unstable places in the world.

Before they pass away , the book is available in XXL Limited Edition priced at € 6500 …. classical or more affordable version, taken at 128 €. A beautiful gift idea for lovers of photography.

English Heritage says it has discovered a “missing piece in the jigsaw” in our understanding of Stonehenge, England‘s greatest prehistoric site. Excavations along the ancient processional route to the monument have confirmed the theory that it was built along an ice age landform that happened to be on the solstice axis, according to Professor Mike Parker Pearson, a leading expert on Stonehenge.

The Avenue was an earthwork route that extended 1.5 miles from the north-eastern entrance to Wiltshire‘s standing stones to the River Avon at West Amesbury. Following the closure of the A344 road, which cut across the route, archaeologists have been able to excavate there for the first time.

Just below the tarmac, they have found naturally occurring fissures that once lay between ridges against which prehistoric builders dug ditches to create the Avenue. The ridges were created by Ice Age meltwater that happen to point directly at the mid-winter sunset in one direction and the mid-summer sunrise in the other.

Parker Pearson said: “It’s hugely significant because it tells us a lot about why Stonehenge was located where it is and why they [prehistoric people] were so interested in the solstices. It’s not to do with worshipping the sun, some kind of calendar or astronomical observatory; it’s about how this place was special to prehistoric people.
