‘Apocalyptic’ storm front over Sydney with menacing clouds

Posted in 2014 with tags , on March 5, 2014 by MARIE EMMANUELLE QUILICHINI

A gigantic storm front moved in over Sydney on Wednesday and residents were quick to upload dramatic pictures of it to the internet.

Huge clouds hundreds of feet high, with some shaped like giant tubes, loomed menacingly over the city during rush hour.

As forecasters warned of heavy rain and flash flooding, Twitter and Facebook became awash with pictures of the looming storm, with one describing the conditions as ‘apocalyptic’.

Jason Murray tweeted ‘b****y hell’ as the storm rolled in. Another wrote: ‘Bad time for bike comute home. OK, that’s a storm alright.’

Josh Noble thought the clouds reminded him of a certain Hollywood blockbuster.

‘It’s Independence Day,’ he wrote.

Qantas steward with Parkinson’s to sue over pesticide link

SYDNEY] A former Qantas steward who believes he developed Parkinson’s disease after repeated exposure to government-mandated pesticides sprayed in the cabin plans to sue Canberra, his lawyer said Monday.

Brett Vollus, 52, worked for Australia‘s national carrier for 27 years as a flight attendant until his early-onset Parkinson’s forced him to take redundancy in May this year. Mr Vollus engaged a specialist lawyer, Tanya Segelov, to look into his case after the Sydney neurosurgeon who made his diagnosis told him he was seeing “a lot” of cabin crew. “He has no family history of Parkinson’s and he believes the Parkinson’s has been caused by his exposure to the insecticide that he sprayed as a long-haul flight attendant on at least a fortnightly basis over a period of 17 years when working on board aircraft,” Ms Segelov told AFP.

Australian Firefighter Captures Terrifying Video Of Bush Fire With Go-Pro Camera

Posted in 2013 with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on October 20, 2013 by MARIE EMMANUELLE QUILICHINI

Click the video above to watch. It was filmed in Mt. Victoria, a small town near Sydney.

By attaching a portable Go-Pro camera to his helmet, firefighter Jonathan Mallin has recorded what it looks like for firefighters battling a raging blaze in a small township in eastern Australia.

As Mallin rushes around the smoke-filled neighborhood, high winds can be seen whipping the fires into a fury while some residents appear to try to escape in their cars. “It’s too late,” Mallin can be heard saying to one.

Firefighters battled nearly 100 different bushfires in New South Wales over the past few days, dozens of which were said to be “out of control,” CNN reported. The severity of the blazes were worsened by hot, dry conditions and high winds. Hundreds of homes have been reduced to embers, and Australia’s largest city, Sydney, wasblanketed with smoke and ash on Thursday.

Fire Near Sydney: Australia bushfires 100 fires across NSW, 36 uncontained: Firefighters face 30m high flames in Lake Macquarie

Posted in 2013 with tags , , , , , , on October 19, 2013 by MARIE EMMANUELLE QUILICHINI

Emergency warnings have been issued in two areas of western Sydney as bushfires threaten to engulf homes and properties. Fast moving fires near Castlereagh and Windsor are being fanned by strong, warm northerly winds and temperatures of around 30 degrees Celsius. Aerial television footage showed fire fighters dropping water from helicopters to control the flames which have already burned several outbuildings. The University of Western Sydney has sent its students home because of power outages caused by the fires. There have not been reports of any casualties. Report by Ashley Fudge.

Posted in 2013 with tags , , , , , , , on September 29, 2013 by MARIE EMMANUELLE QUILICHINI

Using images found on street signage in Sydney and New York, Jason van Genderen shot this entire movie on a cell phone! “Mankind is No Island” is a cleverly crafted visual and musical narrative, whose production budget was a whopping $57! Winner of the TropFest NY 2008 award, the world’s largest short film festival, this is three and half minute experience that will leave you inspired.

Australia : Look Closely at this man, He is the King of Seal Killing: Hatem Yavuz

This man is a disgrace for Humanity
A news report about seal killer Hatem Yavuz from Sydney, Australia by reporter Mike Duffy. The report shows how this Sydney businessman is making millions from hunting seals all over the world. Yavuz funds the Namibian and Canadian seal culls.

I was shocked to find out about the Namibian seal cull and the involvement of your Australia-based company in this cruel slaughter of seal pups.

Namibia’s mass seal slaughter is barbaric and completely unnecessary. Clubbing seal pups that are still nursing – a practise banned by all other sealing countries because of its cruelty – is utterly appalling.

Here’s a baby seal BEFORE he meets with Hatem YAVUZ

By being the sole buyer of Namibian seal pelts, Hatem Yavuz’s company has been directly responsible for suffering and deaths of thousands of defenceless pups in recent years.

Dear Mr. Hatem Yavuz,
i am disgusted to learn about your involvement in the massacre of helpless Cape fur seals in Namibia. The fur industry is a sick, bloody industry that should disappear forever. It does not belong in a modern, civilized society. The butchering of defenseless Cape fur seals, including tens of thousands of nursing pups, is a heinous atrocity.

There is no excuse for this. I hope that you will cease operations of this kind – with or without a buyout.

As an experienced entrepreneur, you have infinite options for profiting from ethical businesses. Please, turn over a new leaf today.
